Character Number: 1
Name: Tavia
Title/Rank: Weyrling
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Allegiance/Faction: Empire
Appearance: Tavia is regrettably plain, much to the despair of her mother. She has untameable brown curls, which frame a totally unremarkable face. Her eyes are grey--nothing really amazing or interesting. They're not silver; not the colour of a stormy sea. Just...grey. Dull, ordinary matte grey without a hint of sparkle even when she’s happy.
Her mouth is slightly crooked--it gives her a permanently wry expression, as if she's quirked it to one side and stuck. Her features are nice enough, but she's altogether forgettable. Even her own family overlook her at times, and people have mistaken her for a servant, when she's wearing her favoured clothes…which is to say, totally bland ones in boring colours.
She just has those kind of forgettable features that blend into crowd, and the instant after turning away will slip right out of your mind. Her brows are heavy and arched, her nose is very straight and her lashes aren't quite dark enough to make her eyes stand out. Tavia’s skin is moderately pale with maybe a hint of a natural golden hue that certainly doesn’t come from exposure to the outdoors given how little she’s outside
Her figure is really quite average. She's not exactly plump, but well rounded with rather unfortunately subtle curvature. Her height is equally average, reaching about 5’4” at most.
That's really all that there is to say about her. She's not ugly, just...nondescript, but with a pleasant smile.
Personality: Tavia is meek. That's...really the best way to describe her. She's been sheltered her entire life, and taught that she's unimportant, and doesn't have half a brain so don't worry her little head about all of the things that there are in life to worry about. The men will take care of everything. As a result, Tavia’s afraid to think for herself because it’s become so ingrained in her that she simply doesn’t have the ability. She was brought up to be obedient, because otherwise she would never find a husband, and as a middle child, that’s really all she’s got going for her. Her marriage won’t affect the ranking of the family or create an alliance and she’ll never have to take on any responsibility, so why spend any more effort on her than necessary? Tavia knows she’s unimportant.
She's an intelligent girl--she just has no outlet for her brains. She can embroider beautifully, make polite conversation with the best of them and read body language, but she's so used to fading into the background that she's startled when anybody speaks to her. She's an extreme introvert, shunning social gatherings and knowing that, even if she does go, she'll be totally forgotten. One could describe her worldview as extremely pessimistic, and it wouldn’t even cover half of it. She probably wouldn’t be surprised if the world was destroyed tomorrow, and would very quietly murmur ‘I told you so’ so long as nobody was around to hear.
The one thing she’s good at, and knows, is listening. She makes a fantastic listener and not a half bad diplomat considering that she’s been trained so rigorously to be polite, and has a natural ability to see both sides of a situation.
Tavia would be a bookworm if she had half the chance, but since she’s confident that such things are not for the likes of her. She has no illusions about her charm or looks. She's an extremely capable dancer, despite the fact that she's a touch clumsy in regular life, and the instant that she puts on formal wear her posture straightens and becomes a bit more dignified rather than slouchy--she's had to learn how to avoid shaming her family.
That said, she's a perfect little obedient daughter...and somewhere along the way has lost the ability to say 'no,’ not to mention express herself. She’ll hold her temper until it kills her and won’t dare express her opinions or ask things of people for fear of imposing.
She's very timid, and almost anything can scare her. That is to say, almost anyone can scare her, with perhaps the exception of dragons which intrigue her so much that she almost forgets that she’s supposed to be meek and subservient. Tavia rarely speaks above a murmur, and would be at a complete loss were she to have to take care of herself. Her abilities at taking care of herself are limited since she’s pretty much Not that she's ever had or expects to have a need, but she's also been groomed for marriage her whole life. She'll probably make somebody a nice little subservient wife who can entertain guests and not make a fuss if he sleeps around a bit, some day.
Tavia has no illusions about her talents or future. She doesn't foresee anything interesting in her life--certainly not something so mundane as romance much less as interesting as Dragons. In her world, girls don't get to consider romance or adventure, especially not if they're Tavia, who is extremely practical and sees no reason to dream when she’s got a perfectly functional world right in front of her. All the same...It’s extremely tempting. Public events and many other things scare her. She's not inclined to show her emotions, and she's extremely...innocent. Or maybe just uninformed.
She adapts to new situations very quickly, though, which is one of her few strengths, and is good at coping briskly and behind the scenes.
History: Tavia was born to an extremely conservative, wealthy family on Pern as the third of four children, and the second daughter. That they had one daughter was, in their opinion, bad enough, but at least her older sister Natika was pretty and could probably make a good marriage to bring their family more power. Tavia didn’t even have that going for her.
All through her childhood, she was raised to be a proper young lady, albeit not literally. Her family was not Noble at all, but a small one with some independently acquired wealth doing its best to marry into an actual Noble family. For that, they had to train their eldest daughter, or even better their oldest son, Fevan. If nothing else, Fevan could marry into another wealthy but self-made family, and THEIR children could be raised to edge their way into the Noble world.
Tavia was always sort of forgotten. Maybe if she’d been gorgeous like her sister she would have had a different sort of life, but such was not for her. Sure, she had to take all the same lessons as her sister, and sure, she had to go through all the same motions, but there was a distinct lack of attention being paid to her. People talked at her rather than to her. It wasn’t that her parents didn’t love her, because they did, but their love took a rather…abstract form, when they remembered she was there. Her younger brother Jolyon, the baby of the family, was a boy and therefore a delight to their parents, almost as much as their two oldest children. Maybe it was inevitable that he should be able to get away with anything.
Tavia could have too, for that matter, given how little attention she was paid, except she was by nature a meek little thing who soaked up what people told her like a sponge.
Rather than risk offending anybody, she’d just take their opinions and convince herself that they were her own, and that it was true that she was unimportant and stupid, and that she should leave decision making to males.
Barring anything better to do with their second daughter, her parents decided that she should get married off too, hopefully as well as possible. It was a distinct glitch in their plans that she should be Searched…though admittedly, they weren’t complaining.
It wasn’t as if it wouldn’t bring them some honour if Tavia were to Impress, and perhaps that would help give them a boost for her brothers or sister to marry well.
Faranth knows what the dragons see in her.
Dragon:
Gold Aerynth
Age: Hatchling
Personality: (Bossy, Believes shes entitled, Demanding)
Aerynth is a very bossy dragon, she is not one to think that others should order her around she knows that she is a queen and believes that because of this she is entitled to certain rights and demands them. She knows that because she is a Queen that her orders must be followed by all dragons and that she is not to be questioned in any fashion she is perhaps the one Queen in all the Empire that would try to order a Diamond around. Aerynth is also demanding she will never 'ask' for anything she believes that everything should be given to her and so it should also be given to HERS.
Appearance: Aerynth is a very large dragon, her build is strong and sturdy she is not one to be trifled with. Her wings are long and sleek she knows her beauty, she is a very bright new gold color on her wings that seems to darken almost to an antique gold color along her body and stomach. She moves with an almost feline like grace though it is only because she knows of her own importance. She will be 46 meters in length at full growth[/color]
Pets:
Gold Fajra
Type: Firelizard
Age: Hatchling
Personality: Proud, Demanding, Protective
Appearance: She is a very vibrant and new shiny gold color. It's remarkable how Fajra glitters and shimmers in the light, even if there's not very much of it. Her brilliant hide colour marks her as a queen, and she knows it--she holds herself regally, even as a hatchling. While she's not the largest firelizard by any stretch, more similar in size to a moderate Bronze and quite slim, she carries herself with instinctive authority. She's more than remarkable enough to make up for her Pet's pure ordinariness.
Green Nere
Type: Firelizard
Age: Hatchling
Personality: Loyal, Faithful, Kind, Gentle
Appearance: A delicately built little creature, Nere is all feminine elegance. There isn't an ungainly bone in her body. She's on the smaller end of the scale for a green, but that has never seemed to bother her. For that matter, she never seems to have noticed that she's smaller than her Golden sister. Her hide is a beautiful, vibrant green like new spring leaves, with hints of darker emerald towards the base of her wings and along her underbelly.
