There were fourteen firelizard eggs sitting in a basket that a candidate had brought on board she was going to make sure that everyone got a chance to impress to one. So she called over the comm hoping that the Emperor didn't get to upset, it was perhaps a day after the Touching? She wasn't sure anyway Maia stood by the eggs watching all fourteen lovingly.

"I found Firelizard eggs if anyone is interested! Emperor sir I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was to excited please come they are hatching." Maia announced.

Ok how this will work for the moment each person will be allowed one egg for the moment. IF we find that no one else wants an egg after everyone has one then we can allow for more. Ok change here the Emperor's player said we can go ahead and play.

The Emperor being led by Little Prince found the Flitter Hatching easily enough and smiled at the girl happily as he began to watch the eggs in interest. He was always fascinated by the little creatures Little Prince was humming his welcome as well to the new firelizards it was going to be a great day!

"It is all right my child." He murmured to her as he looked at Maia with a smile as he watched the firelizard eggs and was pleased to see one was already beginning to hatch he wondered what would come from the Pride Egg as it was the one wobbling as though it were going to hatch.

~Candidate Rosella~

Firelizard eggs were hatching? Rosella knew she couldn't miss a chance like that and yet she had no idea where they were. Looking around she found what she thought was one of the speaking devices and press a button.

"Where exactly might this be happening?" She asked, then as soon as she got an answer, she was off. Hoping beyond all hope that she managed to find it alright and not need to ask directions. Sure enough, there was the girl and Emperor with a decent sized clutch of eggs. She got closer so she could see the eggs easier, and be able to note what hatched.

~Candidate Lytan~

Lytan looked up when a young voice announced that there were firelizard eggs hatching, a slow smile spreading over his face. Now this would be a good occasion to note down, and he gathered some parchment, quill and hurried to find where it was taking place.

Soon enough he had found it and gave the younger of the two girls a slightly shy smile as he got into a good position to note down what hatched and who they went to. Although he thought it might be alright, he still wanted the Emperor's permission so he turned to him.

"Emperor, Sir. Would it be alright if I noted down what colours hatch and who they go to?" He asked politely, glancing sideways at the young girl that seemed to have caught his attention.

Maia smiled a bit as she watched Lytan address the Emperor and then the Emperor nod as he looked at the boy. This was going to be a great day! The eggs were hatching then as she looked down she saw something happen that startled her, suddenly the Hope Egg broke in two! What was that? She watched in awe as a very deep brown firelizard stepped carefully from his shell.

He walked over to the edge of his basket and chirped at the boy Lytan for food. He was ever so hungry but he was holding out hope that the boy would feed him, he would feed him wouldn't he? He was sure he would but the brown creeled ever so pitifully as he looked at Lytan.

As the Hope Egg broke so to did another egg this one the Wrath egg! That startled them all because the Steel that stepped from the shell hissed at them all, he was not pleased! He was very angry how dare his brother hatch before him! He stalked over to Rosella as best he could and hissed at her to feed him.

~Candidate Lytan~

Lytan gave a slight return nod to the emperor before he turned his gaze back to the eggs, watching as one suddenly broke in two. A deep brown stepped out and Lytan quickly noted it down on the parchment. The piece currently looking something like this:

He quickly looked back up and was surprised to find that very same brown stood at the edge of the basket and looking at him. Well, that was certainly a bit of luck. His note taking forgotten, he reached out and picked the brown up carefully and placing it on his shoulder. Then he looked up at the girl first, then the Emperor.

"Is there any meat for them?" He asked, surely someone would have gotten meat ready for when they hatched, surely.

~Candidate Rosella~

The older girl watched as the first egg cracked shell and revealed a deep yet not really dark, brown. It knew straight away who it wanted and made it's way to the edge of the basket by that person, a young harper if the knots were anything to go by. Before she could even think to congratulate him she heard a hissing and looked back at the eggs to see a silvery firelizard.

This one seemed angry, very angry. What had gotten it go agitated? Her eyes widened as it stalked towards her and she thought to send it away. It wasn't going to have that though and hissed again, sending to her just how hungry it was. Ah, well that certainly made one thing clear, hunger definately was one cause of it's anger and irritation.

"Alright, alright. I'll get you fed, as soon as I can find some meat." She told the firelizard, who was currently climbing up her arm and continuously hissing.

Finnie gets a friend? T'nan paused as he looked over the paper in front of him, yet more paperwork about the wings. He hadn't technically finished last weeks...She's sending me pictures of eggs. Can we get her a friend? \You can't leave the cavern, Caith. I'll go get her one,' he chuckled, a quick mental prod all it took to get the little Rainbow to appear in front of him. It still amazed him that flitters' and dragons' betweening abilities weren't affected in space...Goooo! Before they all hatch! 'Going, going...'

The Rainbow chirped, tugging at the man's hair to try and get him to hurry up, images filling up his vision as she tried everything she could to get him to understand. Yet she didn't seem to understand that he did actually get what it was she was going on about. He laughed at her, reaching up to swat her away as he walked into the room. Oh, the Emperor was there. He smiled slightly before he bowed. It always paid to be polite. But of course, he wasn't the one who was holding the eggs.

"I don't supposed I could wait here and see what happens? I promise not to get in the way," he chuckled, nodding to the girl. She was a candidate, wasn't she? Definately. He could remember who she was, for one. It began with an 'm'...But that was as far as it went.

Maia smiled as the Weyrleader entered being led by a Rainbow firelizard this was getting interesting then as she looked at him the Gluttony egg broke and out stepped a rather plump looking Rainbow. It looked as though a Four Turn old had colored her hide, she was amazingly fat. However Maia groaned as she realized another egg was hatching and it broke shell as well, it was the Envy egg! Out came an orange flitter that walked up to Maia and chirped demandingly.

Tavia was not at all certain what to think of the ship. She'd been trying to convince herself that it was no different that the ground...and that she wasn't uneasy at all...but that was something of a lie.
It wasn't that she was nervous exactly more like downright terrified whenever she let herself think about it, but the concept of being so high above the planet was a bit dizzying. She knew it was safe, or the Emperor wouldn't use the method of transportation, but she couldn't help nerves getting in the way of logic.

Besides, Tavia was not known as the world's most logical person. She was, after all, female, and according to her parents that was enough to excuse her from any responsibilities of using her brain. Tavia on the other hand wasn't entirely sure about that, but she figured that it was as good an explanation as any until she came up with something better...
It's just like the ground, she reminded herself again as she paced carefully through the hallway. There's absolutely no way that the ship is going to spontaneously decide to plummet.
That was just...ridiculous.

Unfortunately, ridiculous or not, she was still having difficulties wrapping her mind around the whole thing. She'd managed the Egg Touching because she was still so dazed after the shuttle ride, but since then everything had kind of been sinking in, and she'd come to the conclusion that she was way in over her head.
So why was she responding to the call over the comm about a firelizard hatching? Tavia wasn't entirely sure.

Maybe she was bored, and she had nothing better to do. It wasn't like she expected to actually Impress one--no more than she expected to Impress a dragon--but she was as curious as anybody. Maybe it would take her mind off of the fact that they were so high over the planet, orbiting...
Faranth, she'd be glad when they were back on Pern, safety or no.
Taking a deep breath, she raked a hand through her mousy brown hair, and gave an uncertain curtsy to the girl who appeared to be presiding, and then--oh, Faranth, the weyrleader--a deeper one to T'nan.
If she'd thought it before, now she was certain. She was in way over her head.

Since no one was paying attention to it the Pride Egg burst open and revealed a very large and shiny gold. She creeled her displeasure at being ignored and promptly went over to the edge of the basket and looked at the girl (Tavia) with whirling red eyes. She was hungry and Tavia would feed her then she would show her she was the best firelizard ever shelled. She hissed at her Rainbow sister and then began to wonder what to do next. She opened her maw and creeled again as she looked at the girl, she needed to feed her!

As her golden sister impressed the Rainbow decided then was the best time to Impress. She walked up to T'nan and creeled, he'd feed her right? He would wouldn't he? That confused her as she looked at him with pitiful eyes.

He was still smiling kindly at the candidate when the first egg hatched. Whatever it had been called, it was now a rather, erm...Chubby, little Rainbow. He had nothing against that, of course, but he wasn't quite sure it was supposed to be that way. Not in the slightest. But she was a bright little thing, mostly one shade of red, blue and green, rather then the mix of sahdes that Fin sported. But she was still a Rainbow - at least he thought it was a she. There wasn't any way of really telling.

T'nan snorted as Finaire tried to launch herself a the thing, chittering away like she's just seen an old friend. The ltitle thing was only going to cause trouble, though. He was chuckling as he dragged her back to his chest, tickling her under the chin as she continued to chitter and hum, trying in her own way to tell him something and not managing it in the slightest. He only glanced up to watch the Orange, smiling again at the girl when she Impressed to it. Unfortunately that meant he missed the arrival of the girl.

He would have bowed in return, but with a flitter in his arms he had to settle for a nod, an awkward smile on his face as he watched her, a little confused. She looked...Uncomfortable. Had they done anything wrong? As far as he knew the Emperor had catered to everyone's needs, she shoudln't have been uncomfortable...Only with the hatching of the Gold there was no time to ask. Which left the Rainbow.

She was quite possibly the one that would be the least wanted so far, as pretty as she was. It wasn't fair. He frowned slightly, tilting his head as he watched her stumble to the edge of the basket, more amazed at the fact she could actually walk then anything. Perhaps whoever she chose would be able to slim her down...Fin started to chirp, wriggling frantically to get down and say hello to the new arrival, eyes swirling rapidly. He chuckled, a grin spreading across his face before he leaned down to pick the chubby creature up, Fin pushed onto his shoulder to make room.

"We'll get you something to eat," he replied, letting Fin lean down to coo in this one's face, her own hide appearing dim compared to the other's. Tippit. He'd call her Tippi. As soon as he got her fed.

[H-ness]

No sooner had Tavia arrived than one of the eggs began to rock with renewed vigor. At first, she wasn't really paying attention. It was just one more egg in a basket of eggs, doing pretty much the same thing as all the others. There was no reason that that particular shell should have attracted her attention, though later she would chide herself and say that she should have.
One minute there was an egg there, swaying like all the rest, and the next there was a firelizard there.

Except...Tavia took a few minutes to notice it. She was too busy trying not to be awed by the fact that she was in the presence of some of Pern...no, not just Pern, the Empire's greatest...to realize. Watching a firelizard clutch and failing to actually watch the eggs might have defeated the purpose, but how was she to have known that it would go so quickly?
The hatchling was a Gold, creeling imperiously to be fed, and for a moment, Tavia almost smiled at her. She was so small, and so...proud. She couldn't remember ever feeling that proud of anything in her entire life, much less about herself.

She had to be some serious...
The thought was never completed, because that was when she realized that the firelizard was looking at her, demanding to be fed, eyes swirling crimson. The colour drained from her face.
Ohshardsohshardsohshards. What did she do now? How was Tavia supposed to react to this tiny, elegant creature entering her life so very suddenly, and undoubtedly making people notice her, because even a plain girl stood out with a Gold firelizard...

These thoughts sprinted through her time in a matter of seconds and were promptly forgotten as, breathlessly, unable to deny her anything, she bent to scoop the little hatchling into her hands.
"Of course I'll feed you," she told the creeling beauty, looking around dazedly for a bowl of meat or something to feed the hatchling.
The little gold chirped primly, and, suffused with awe of a different sort than her paralysis of earlier, she murmured, "I will call you Fajra."
After a moment, tentatively, she ventured softly, "...Excuse me, is there anything for the little ones to eat?"

Maia was to busy stuffing her new flitter to realize others were asking about food when Tavia's question reached her she pulled up a bucket of meat. "I prepared it for the flitters, I was rather happy to think that they were hatching. So there's enough here for the little fellows, go ahead and feed yours, Nivar is full." Maia commented as the orange promptly fell asleep and was snoring a bit as he did so. It was as she was saying this that she noticed the Weyrleader, she gulped and smiled at him. This was a big thing The Emperor was here the Weyrleader was here and the Candidates where was the Weyrwoman? She shook her head she was probably with the Clutch, but what about her brother Dalmian.

~Candidate Dalmian~
Dalmian walked into the hatching and saw his sister he smiled and went over to the basket, he hoped one would hatch for him but he doubted at this time. He gulped a bit and reached for a piece of meat and waited to see what was going to come next? Maybe a Diamond or a Bronze, that would be interesting indeed, but he was willing to wait. As he did he bowed to the Emperor and then bowed to the Weyrleader, he was in the presence of leaders. He was proud of that fact he was sure this was going to be a big day for him, with a smile he thought about the eggs both large and small sitting there in front of him.

As he did a Diamond broke its way free of the shell and looked up there was the one he wanted! It walked towards Dalmian and demanded to be fed with an angry creel, where was the food?

Dalmian smiled and began feeding him, "I think I'll call you Tiron you are a handsome fellow, now to think of what to do next." Dalmian said as he looked at the Diamond who settled down next to him.

Tavia ducked her head shyly as Maia spoke, stroking the top of Fajra's head gently, still unable to believe that the firelizard had come to her for food, of all people.
There was something rather strange about that...but then again, she was as likely to have food to supply as anybody else here, she supposed, and the fact that she was female wouldn't have bothered the Gold because she was female too.

When she thought about it, the distinction was rather strange. Weyrwomen were female, and they were perfectly capable, and rather intelligent as far as she was aware, so why had her parents enforced the idea that, as a girl, she did not need to use her mind?
Huh.
...But she could not dwell on that just now because she had to feed Fajra, or she was going to be faced with a rather unhappy golden hatchling.
"Thank you," she mumbled, taking the bucket of meat and trying to quell her instinctive disgust. "That was very thoughtful of you."

How could such a pretty, delicate thing eat this awful stuff? It was so...so...disgusting.
Fajra, however, did not appear to agree, because she chirped, eyes whirling rapidly, and lunged at the meat as, daintily, Tavia took a chunk out and proffered it towards her.
"Careful," she admonished softly. "Please do not bite me." That would be rather unfortunate...The little Gold ate one, and then another, and then another, as quickly as Tavia could supply them, and she was so focused on feeding the firelizard that she forgot to be nervous or worried about having lured the gold away from some other, worthier person.

As though they planned their arrival to be on cue with the arrival of a new Candidate they all hatched as one, the Hatchlings went to their chosens without a hitch each knowing exactly who would feed them without a doubt! In their minds, they walked on unsteady feet.

A Brass walked right up to Dalmian and squawked his for food he was hungry and Dalmian already had a Diamond so he'd feed him. He knew he would and that meant food didn't it?

The Temperance Blood hatched and walked over to Lytan with dainty steps and chirped to him for food. He would feed her wouldn't he? He had a Brown that could share Lytan with her. She knew that, beyond any doubt and she was very tolerant of others.

The Fortitude egg revealed a very small white firelizard, he squawked to Lytan to feed him. He attempted to struggle his way to Lytan for food but he eventually got up the strength to arrive at Lytan and chirped. He needed food and he was going to get it!

The Charity egg hatched a bronze that walked up to a new candidate (Kaselor; will be posting soon). He was going to get fed and knew that this boy was going to feed him. He was sure of that and was also sure that Kaselor was worthy of him.

Out of the Prudence egg came a Sapphire she was a very interesting shade of blue and she was also very cautious in her steps as she walked towards the girl that was right in front of her. She was sure that Rosella would feed her beyond any thought.

Out of the Sloth egg came a blue, it chirped to Maia. It wanted to eat, but was to lazy to move it wanted Maia to pick him up and move him. So she did and began to feed him.

The Faith egg burst out a Green that immediately walked up to Tavia and chirped she was hungry! Her eyes swirled a red color as she demanded food then they turned a softer shade of green and blue as she realized that Tavia was so gentle.

Out of the Greed egg burst a Coral that immediately lept at T'nan and wanted food, she was going to take it from Tippit if it was needed! She was very hungry and wanted to eat! She was going to steal if it was needed.

~Candidate Lytan~

Once he had finished feeding the brown, which he had decided on calling Wyatt, Lytan tried to see what had hatched and when, but got confused with so many others already hatched. So he simply noted down what they were, and who they had gone to, no longer bothering with an order. He scribbled out the numbers he'd hastily written down before so the parchment now looked like this:

Then he set to watching the eggs again, Wyatt asleep on his shoulder, luckily it was the left one and not the right side, which was the hand he wrote with. Not that the brown was especially heavy, it was just a bit awkward to move an arm when a firelizard was perched on the shoulder.

Suddenly it seemed the rest of the eggs had choreographed their hatching with each other, and hatched en masse. Lytan saw the first, a brass head off to the one who had got the diamond a short while earlier and noted it down. Then he gaze was caught by the sight of the little blood that had come over to him. It wanted him? This little queen wanted him?

"Yes Piper, I will feed you. There is plenty to go around." He told the blood after quickly noting down that it had come to him. Yet a squawk had him looking up to see a little white looking at him. He watched as it struggled to walk, yet it did so with such resilience that he had to smile. Come on little one, you can do it. He encouraged mentally, his smile growing wider as it managed to and stopped before him.

"You did good Krys, you did very good. You did magnificent." Lytan told the white proudly, picking the little white up and placing it on his right shoulder. Poor thing weighed so little that he barely noticed the white was even on his shoulder. Piper crooned softly to the white, she was also proudly of the little fellow. Lytan was smiling so happily that his cheeks almost hurt, but he didn't care, he was just pleased that these three little ones had found him worthy enough to bond to him.

He began feeding both Piper and Krys in turns, a piece for Krys, a piece for Piper, another piece for Krys, and so on until both were sated and sleepy. Lytan carefully shifted Krys enough so that Piper could also fit on the shoulder. He was going to finish noted who got what, but he didn't mind if it was awkward anymore. So he looked up again, smiling at all the variety of colours.

~Candidate Rosella~

Rosella was a bit surprised that the Weyrleader had showed up, but she gave him a slight nod of acknowledgement. Then watched as a rainbow and orange hatched, the orange going straight to the young girl who had called that the clutch was hatching. Then the rainbow went to the Weyrleader, which surprised her as he already had a rainbow. Faranth, was he going to have his work cut out for him, with two rainbows.

Then a gold hatched and went straight to a girl that had only just walked in, well that was fine with her. After all, it was queen DRAGONS she was more interested in, not firelizard queens. Which was just as well really, as then a diamond hatched. It was easy to see it was diamond, as the light glinted off it's hide in rainbows even though the hide was more steel in colour.

Then suddenly all the remaining eggs hatched at the same time, making her wondering if they had communicated about it between them. She noticed a brass go off to one of the lads, then a blood, the biggest of all the firelizards, go to the young harper. Fine with her, completely fine. Then a small white went to the harper. That made it three, three that went to the harper from the same clutch. She gave a small snort before noticing a bronze go off towards a candidate that had just walked in. Comepletely fine too.

Rosella was beginning to wonder if anymore would come to her when she caught a flash of blue and looked down to see a blue before her. Blue? Then the bond clicked into place and she felt the feminine mind and knew this was no mere blue. No, indeed not, it was a sapphire. Well, for all and intenses it was a female blue, but that didn't matter, it was a female. Yet the steel, who she had named Titan, hissed down at the sapphire making the little female back up a step.

"Now Titan, that is not nice. Aqua as much right to me as you do." She told the larger male, who huffed and wrapped his tail round her neck. Rosella picked the sapphire up and placed it on her other shoulder, causing another hiss from Titan. A little tap on the nose though had him snorting and shaking his head. Well, it served him right, hissing at his sister like that. Rosella fed Aqua slowly, making sure the sapphire didn't choke, but it seemed she needn't have worried. Aqua was keeping herself in check, the little sapphire know how to not choke and doing a fine job of it.

[H-ness]

As absorbed in making sure that Fajra had everything she could possibly need as she was, Tavia failed to notice the sudden onslaught of hatching eggs.
The Gold firelizard in her arms finally seemed to have had enough to eat, and had proceeded to doze, stomach distended. If Tavia looked closely, she could swear that she could even see the outlines of individual chunks of meat. Whether or not that was a bad thing, she wasn't sure.
Did that mean that she should have made more certain that the hatchling chewed her meat?

Or did that just mean that she'd eaten well? Perhaps she would have to ask somebody, because the last thing that Tavia wanted to do was be seen as not taking adequate care of her new Bondmate. That would be simply dreadful.
If people were looking at her, whispering about how she was doing such an awful job and was unfit to be the caretaker of a firelizard...
The girl swallowed convulsively, and gently shifted the firelizard.

There seemed to be another firelizard, a delicate little green, creeling up at her, projecting unmistakable pangs of hunger.
"Oh..." breathed the young woman, eyes going round, her lopsided mouth stretching in an incredulous smile. Careful not to disturb Fajra, she knelt to, oh-so-gently, scoop the diminutive creature into her hand, crooning reassuring nonsense.
"I'll get food for you in a moment, darling..."

Another bucket of meat was quickly forthcoming, as she settled the dozing Gold on her shoulder as others seemed to be doing, and bent her not inconsiderable will to the feeding of her newest companion.
Clearly, something was wrong with these firelizards. What could they possibly see in Tavia that not one, but two had sought food from her? ...Possibly just that she was a good source of things to eat.
"I will call you Nere," she murmured as she offered the green a chunk of meat, and received a chirp of thanks. "Do you think that will do?"
Apparently she did.
