CHARACTER NUMBER: 1st
NAME: T'nan [ tuh-nan ] (Ternian)
TITLE/RANK: Weyrleader of Benden, Bronzerider
AGE: Thirty Turns
GENDER: Male
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
ALLEGIENCE/FACTION: Pern/Galactic Empire
APPEARANCE:
If his personality wasn't average enough then his appearance tops everything off nicely. Sure, he's handsome in some kind of way, but you could walk right past him on the street and not bother to give him another glance. Standing at six foot tall he's not exactly short, though even his height doesn't really make him stand out any more. What does stand out more is his physique. Being Weyrleader has left him with less time in the air, which means he has less time to exercise. Of course there's still that obvious layer of muscle to him, but it's not defined enough to be considered truly well built. Plus he's more lean then anything else, though neither his legs nor his torso seem to take up the most room on his body. He's rather nicely balanced in that respect.
Then you have his face. It's a kind face, always seeming to be smiling ever so slightly. Perhaps it's because of the way his lips are shaped. Either way, it just makes him look friendly constantly. Blue eyes are set under rather thick brows, rather bright on a face that doesn't do anything else to make them stand out. Apart from that he is average in every other way. He has a large smile, a rather squared off head and brown hair that just tends to do whatever it likes.
PERSONALITY:
T'nan is definitely one of the most ordinary people you will ever meet. He doesn't hold any radical opinions, he doesn't have an outstanding social life, and his only really outstanding trait is that he's kind. He's an agreeable man, friendly to every one he meets – even if they don't like him. It is rather annoying sometimes, his kindness. When all you're ever faced with is a patient kindness...You begin to want something else, even if it is anger. Something more then simple kindness. He does show more emotion at certain times, but the majority of the time he's just a slow, patient, kind person.
Usually he shows most emotion around those he cares about – in good or bad situations. If he gets angry, you will definitely know about it. An angry T'nan is a scary T'nan, one prone to violent outbursts that get him into more trouble then the person he's angry at. He will lash out, he will punch, he will throw things. Most of the time he isolates himself when he's angry, simpley to try not to hurt people. If he can't get out of the way he goes a little...Blank. Expressionless and quiet until he simply can't take it any more. Wingleaders are those prone to see his outbursts - and of course he does get angry at incompetent Weyrlings, but he will not hurt them. The strangest thing is that there is no building annoyance to this anger. It's there or it isn't.
HISTORY:
Mother: Yana, Dragonrider, Green Tirianonath
'Father': Illera, Dragonrider, Blue Hanath
Brothers: Kolt, Trader (34)
Sisters: Tnaia, Freighter Captain (32)
Katriana, Smith (29)
Hariina, Gun Expert (27)
When you ask T'nan who his parents are, he will lie. If it wasn't obvious enough that he was lying in the first place, it would when he got down to the details. Neither of his parents are his biological parents, nor are his sisters, though his brother might be. He doesn't actually know. All he knows is that he was taken in by the two dragonriders, almost raised by them, and treated like he was their child. That was all he's ever needed or wanted to know, if he's quite honest. Even if growing up with two mothers was never the ideal way to grow up in the eyes of a few. A selective few, even. The Weyr never seemed to have entirely that much of a problem with it as far as he could tell.
Until the age of six he lived as an orphan in Fort Hold. It wasn't until it came for the surrounding area to be Searched that Ilera and Yana picked him up. All of his siblings had already been adopted - though Hariina was Yana's biological daughter, the only one out of the bunch. Kolt was picked up with him, another one of the orphans they'd found. Neither of them minded. They had a home, a family, a dysfunctional family, but it was definitely better then whatever it was they'd had before. Ternian was taken back to Fort with no questions asked, and he fit in rather nicely. He put up with the little girls after all.
He grew up constantly surrounded by strong, confident women. It's amazing he didn't end up being effeminate and gay. Kolt did the job for him, perhaps. He was the one who would sit there and let them do whatever they wanted as they all grew up. He was the one who listened to them cry, listened to them fall in love over and over, listened to them break up with their loves over and over. He was just there for them whenever they needed help. Then again half the lower caverns did the job as well. Fort was, in his mind, the perfect place. Everyone was friendly, no one minded what he got up to. Well, as long as it wasn't illegal or treasonous against the Weyrwoman or Emperor. That was a little over the top, they wouldn't allow that.
But childhood went to fast. Kolt was apprenticed off at the age of thirteen to a merchant, but that didn't last long. Three Turns was all it took before the young boy scarped and became a trader instead. Not as much, not nearly as much comfort, but he'd met the girl of his dreams. That was the last Ternian ever saw of him at least. His sisters...They had more worldly pursuits in mind. But he never got a chance to see them. At fifteen he was Searched by Fort and it was agreed that he would make a good candidate for the clutch that was currently on the sands. He agreed to go, and he went. That was pretty much it for him. Searching, touching, hatching. Nothing really happened in between it all. But everything happened after.
The hatching was the smoothest they'd had all Turn, dragons broke their shells and Impressed quickly and smoothly. None turned out to be duds, either, which was always a bonus. It was, oh, about the fifth egg left that was important to Ternian. T'nan? T'nan! We've got to go now, T'nan! We've really got to go now! They've got food, T'nan! The Bronze was blabbering even before he'd gotten out of his shell, shards sticking to his head as he lay half in, half out while T'nan carefully helped him out. That was the easy part. The harder part was figuring out what to do after graduation. Fort was not low on Queens, but neither were they low on Bronzes, and with half of the Bronzes being too closely related to the Queens...Well, they decided to shift thins around a bit.
T'nan and Caith had barely been out of Weyrlinghood a month before they transferred him. All his friends and his family left behind in duty to his Weyr. Or rather in duty to his new Weyr, Benden. It was...Nice. But it was not home. He stayed for as long as he needed to before applying for a transfer back. He'd not exactly made many friends. Caith was not the serious, leadership potential Bronze they had been expecting and for that he wasn't widely accepted within the higher ranks, and many of the lower ranks simply didn't see the need to talk to him because he was a Bronzerider.
Then Caith flew Abarineth. It was an accident, he hadn't expected the Bronze to chase the Senior Queen any more then the Bronze had expected to chase. But he caught her and he won. That was the most surprising thing about it all. T'nan was suddenly Weyrleader, without the faintest clue of what it was he was supposed to be doing. He pulled his way through, however. Myarin was nice. Kind, smart...beautiful. He didn't mind it at all. Then her Blood rose again. This time he did encourage Caith to chase, and the Bronze did the best he could...And he won again. T'nan was Weyrleader again.
Over the Turns since then Caith has chased and caught the Blood many a time, and T'nan is no longer the social outcast he once was. He's not even asking for a transfer any more.
BRONZE CAITH
TYPE: Dragon
NAME: Caith
AGE: Eight Turns
COLOUR: Bronze [ 79783f ]
RIDER/HANDLER: T'nan
APPEARANCE:
At forty five meters in length, Caith is not small. Nor is he short in height, either. Long legs give him an advantage against some – especially with Abarineth, but that's a different matter entirely – but they can't help him with everything. He is a bulky Bronze, built up with muscle over laid over muscle. There's no doubt that there's strength in that form. It's not ugly, but it's definitely intimidating if you didn't know the Bronze's personality. It's a strength that he tries to control, rather then use. Hide wise he's a rather plain, almost greyed out yellow shade of Bronze, marked along his back with darker rectangles that go from just behind his headknobs to the tip of his tail. Apart from that his hide is relatively flawless. There's a metallic shine to it, but that's about it.
PERSONALITY:
In many ways Caith is like his rider. He is kind. He will very rarely laugh at something unless he knows it's not meant to hurt anyone, he's very serious about that. If the joke is aimed at someone, he won't laugh. He'll shrink and glance back and forth between those around him, but he won't laugh. You can be kind, or you can be kind to the point where it can get annoying. Caith is usually the latter. He doesn't mean any harm by it, it's almost childish in a way.
But he's definitely not quite as calm. The Bronze is prone to talking more then T'nan ever would, balancing everything out since he's just as likely to blurt out what's going through his rider's mind as what's going through his own. But that's usually only in short bursts. The majority of the time he's almost silent and then suddenly, for no apparent reason at all, he'll just start talking about anything. Anything at all, even if the conversation wasn't about that in the first place.
And he's fiercely protective. Caith will attack anyone that tries to hurt his mate, his bonded, his Weyr, and his children. It's a long list, but it's one that's easy to remember. He won't fight to the death, that's rather stupid since it would mean he wouldn't be able to protect anything else, but he'll try his damned hardest to not let anything happen wo the thing she loves.
RAINBOW FINAIRE
Type: Fire-Lizard
NAME: Finaire
AGE: Three Turns
COLOUR: Rainbow (female)
PERSONALITY:
One of the strangest things about the little thing is that she likes to swim. She just tucks her legs in tight, folds in her wings, and wriggles like some sort of eel or water snake. And she loves it. Apart from that she's a complete and utter nut. Loud, irritating, excitable, and hyper, she tries her hardest to get everywhere and anywhere she can while staying on her master's good side.
But she does try her hardest to please T'nan and Caith – and Myarin if she happens to be in a good mood. What makes him happy, makes her happy on nearly every occasion. If he wants something, she'll bring it to him. It might be completely chewed up and unrecognisable, or a few days late, but she will bring it eventually. Making Caith happy is easy for her. Usually she just has to scratch in the right place and he's a purring wreck.
APPEARANCE:
Finnie's an almost perfect example of a Rainbow. Her hide shifts and changes from one colour to the next without any stops or starts, a constant change between every colour you can imagine. The only things that make her one of the worst examples of a Rainbow are the orange spots. Along her tail, on her face, on the thighs of her back legs she sports bright orange spots that stand out bright against the rest of her hide, no matter the colour underneath. Pretty, yes, but not exactly what you'd look for in a Rainbow.
Apart from that one of the first things you notice is that she's...Long. Her body is mostly tail and neck, and those are thick enough to appear the same width as the body – which is thin enough to not exactly look all that lizard like any more. She's like a walking, flying tunnelsnake sort of creature. Amusing to say the least. When she runs, her entire neck moves up and down with her head. In the air her shape hinders her, though her small size still gives her that little bit of agility over the larger colours.
RAINBOW TIPPI
Type: Fire-Lizard
NAME: Tippi
AGE: Zero Turns
COLOUR: Rainbow (female)
PERSONALITY:
Loves to chew on things, likes to eat anything put in front of her, always on the move
APPEARANCE:
Fat. And that's putting it bluntly. No mater how hard T'nan tries, no matter how many diets, no matter how much exercise, Tippi stays extrodinarily fat. There was the theorty that it was muscle, but that turned out to be wrong.
GEORGIA
Type: Fire-Lizard
NAME: Georgia
AGE: Zero Turns
COLOUR: Coral
PERSONALITY:
Greedy, Loves to take credits, Steals for its bonded
APPEARANCE:
She is one slip of a thing. Finely boned to the point where she becomes almost terrier like: her muzzle is pointed where it should be rounded; her paws are finely boned, with elongated fingers that are almost perfectly suited to slipping through knots; and her elbows are pointed enough to seriously do some damage if she wished it. Given the fact thather wings are also a tad small, easy to tuck tight against her side, she is the most agile flitter T'nan has.
